In The Line of Duty Death of Sgt. Ben Bertram


POLICE K9 SGT. BEN BERTRAM and recently retired K9 Partner KUBO.

POLICE K9 SGT. BENTON HURLEY “BEN” BERTRAM, 33 YEARS OF AGE, A NINE YEAR VETERAN OFFICER OF THE CHARLESTOWN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT AND FORMER CLARK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT CORRECTIONS OFFICER; DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON DECEMBER 12TH, 2018, WHILE IN PURSUIT OF A FLEEING FELON.

SGT. BERTRAM IS SURVIVED BY HIS K9 PARTNERS K9 KUBO AND K9 FRANCO, HIS PARENTS LUKE AND DIANE BERTRAM, SISTER LINDSEY WOLFF, NIECE LILLY WOLFF, BROTHER-IN-LAW MAJOR TIMOTHY WOLFF, ASSISTANT CHIEF OF THE CHARLESTOWN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND AMANDA ABBOTT.

VISITATION WILL BE HELD MONDAY, DECEMBER 17TH, 2018 FROM 1400 TO 1900 HOURS, IN THE CHARLESTOWN HIGH SCHOOL ARENA, #1 PIRATE PLACE, CHARLESTOWN, IN.

LIFE CELEBRATION SERVICES, INCLUDING HONORS, WILL BE HELD TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18TH, 2018, 1100 HOURS, IN THE CHARLESTOWN HIGH SCHOOL ARENA. GRAVE SIDE CEREMONIES AND ESCORT / PROCESSIONAL DETAIL WILL NOT FOLLOW SERVICES, IN LIEU OF CREMATION.

UNIFORM IS CLASS A OR POLICE CANINE UTILITY.

CHPD Statement 12/30/2018: First, our Department would like to extend our gratitude for all the support we’ve received since we tragically lost Sgt. Bertram on December 12th. The support we’ve received from the community as been amazing to say the least. We are truly blessed as a department to have such a supportive community behind us!!

Since that time countless individuals have inquired about fundraising opportunities and/or ideas for the Bertram family. If you have a fundraising idea please send our page a private message with your contact information so that a representative of the department can contact you.

We ask that no individual take it upon themself to raise money without contacting our agency in advance. We want to insure that 100% of monies raised goes to its rightful cause.
