It is with great sadness that the Charlestown Police Department announces the death of its own, Detective Sergeant TeJuan Johnson, from complications due to Covid 19. Sergeant Johnson is a 13 year veteran of the department. Sergeant Johnson served as a Field Training Officer, police bike patrol, narcotics detective, and shift commander. Please keep his family and his brothers and sisters at the Charlestown Police Department in your thoughts and prayers.

Due to the risks associated with COVID-19, the following attendance restrictions are requested for those wanting to pay their respects to Detective Sergeant Te’Juan Johnson during the upcoming visitation and celebration of life services.

* Visitation services for Sgt. Johnson are limited to Sunday, December 6th, 2020 from 2:00 pm through 7:00 pm, in the Charlestown High School Sports Arena, located at #1 Pirate Place, Charlestown, Indiana.  All visitation attendees must wear a facial mask that covers the mouth and nose while in attendance, and be subject to temperature check upon entry.  Social distancing provisions will be in place for purposes of participating in the casket pass by; and entry may be delayed for purposes of managing capacity inside the event.

Attendance during Sgt. Johnson’s Life Celebration Service, beginning at noon on Monday, December 7th, 2020, also at the Charlestown High School Sport Arena; will be limited to Sgt. Johnson’s family, local dignitaries / officials, and the members of the Charlestown Police Department with their families.  All service attendees also must wear a facial mask that covers the mouth and nose while in attendance, and be subject to temperature check upon entry.  Attendee seating will be arranged to allow for social distancing.


First Responders from area agencies are invited to participant in a casket pass by at the beginning of Monday’s Life Celebration service; and are welcome to remain with their vehicle and participate in the procession to the cemetery with Charlestown Police immediately following the service.  Staging for the First Responder casket pass by will begin at 9:30 am in front of the Charlestown High School Sports Area.

The community is welcome to line the streets of the procession from Charlestown High School, down Market Street from Monroe to Main Streets, en route to Crown Hill cemetery, following the Life Celebration Service.  Sgt. Johnson’s funeral procession to the cemetery is expected to occur between 3:00 and 4:00 pm Monday.
