Charlestown Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The Charlestown Police Department and the Charlestown Jay C Plus Food Store have teamed up once again to participate in the DEA Sponsored National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.  Officers of the Charlestown Police Department will be on hand Saturday, April 30th, 2022 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, in the parking lot of Charlestown Jay C Plus Food Store; to provide a safe disposal of expired and unused prescription pill/tablet medications.  Disposal is courtesy of the Charlestown Police Department, through this US Drug Enforcement Agency program, occurring nationwide, totally FREE OF CHARGE and with NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

This event will be managed in a parking lot drive-thru fashion with personnel wearing personal protective gloves and masks to accept unused and expired prescription pills and tablets only….SORRY NO LIQUIDS, SPRAYS OR AREOSOLS CAN BE ACCEPTED.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.  Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That’s dangerous and often tragic. That’s why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in – safely and anonymously – a record amount of prescription drugs.
