Cops Cycling for Survivors Return to Charlestown

Indiana Cops Cycling for Survivors made a stop with Charlestown PD this morning, while traveling the entire State of Indiana, to take a moment to honor our fallen Sgt. Ben Bertram and Sgt. TeJuan Johnson.  The Cops Cycling for Survivors Foundation, Incorporated is focused on compassion, integrity, and dedication. Their core mission is to raise awareness of fallen law enforcement officers who are killed in the line of duty and their survivors.  Funds generated will be utilized to perpetuate the memories of the officers and support their survivors left behind. Active officers and civilian participant riders raise awareness and actively support law enforcement survivors through the annual bicycle tour around the state of Indiana which raises funds to be utilized to support scholarships, camps and events held in memory of officers killed in the line of duty and other survivor causes as determined by the Cops Cycling for Survivors Foundation…


Ofc. Lyons Graduates DARE with Top Honors

Earlier this year, Charlestown Police Chief Timothy Wolff announced that Officer Brandon Lyons, a five year veteran of the department; would replace Sgt. Adam Clark as the department’s School Resource Officer, beginning the 2021-22 school year.  Sgt. Clark, who is moving into a Shift Supervisor role within the department; has been assisting Officer Lyons with the transition since January.  The Charlestown Police Department, in cooperation with the Greater Clark School Corporation, currently assigns a certified School Resource Police Officer assigned to Jonathan Jennings Elementary and Charlestown Middle School, in Charlestown. This past week, as part of his training and transition, Officer Lyons completed the two week course to become a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer instructor; which will enable him to continue the department’s tradition of teaching the D.A.R.E. curriculum to students in his assigned schools.  Additionally, Officer Lyons is trained to teach enhancement lessons such as Elementary Gangs…


CHPD K9 Hurly Tracks Down Fleeing Suspect

During the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 17th, officers of the Charlestown Police Department responded to the area of County Road 403 and Stony Point Road to assist Clark County Sheriff Deputies with locating a Jeffersonville man who had just fled the scene of a traffic accident on Stacy Court, driving a dark colored Toyota sedan. After a short pursuit, the suspect abandoned his vehicle in the 6700 block of County Road 403 and fled north on foot into the nearby adjacent fields and wooden areas. CHPD Sgt. Adam Clark and his K9 partner Hurley (shown in the adjacent photo immediately following the incident) arrived on scene and began a track of the fleeing suspect; locating him without further incident over a mile away and 20 minutes later. The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple offenses by Deputies of the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.


Charlestown Prescription Drug Take Back Day April 24th

The Charlestown Police Department and the Charlestown Jay C Plus Food Store have teamed up once again to participate in the DEA Sponsored National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.  Officers of the Charlestown Police Department will be on hand Saturday, April 24th, 2021 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, in the parking lot of Charlestown Jay C Plus Food Store; to provide a safe disposal of expired and unused prescription pill/tablet medications.  Disposal is courtesy of the Charlestown Police Department, through this US Drug Enforcement Agency program, occurring nationwide, totally FREE OF CHARGE and with NO QUESTIONS ASKED. This event will be managed in a parking lot drive-thru fashion with personnel wearing personal protective gloves and masks to accept unused and expired prescription pills and tablets only….SORRY NO LIQUIDS, SPRAYS OR AREOSOLS CAN BE ACCEPTED. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue….
