The Charlestown Police Department, in cooperation with the Indiana State Police Firearms Division, provides services for making application for an Indiana Personal Protection and Hunting/Target Handgun Permit (License), for City of Charlestown residents.

Applications can generally be made between the hours of 9am and 5pm, any day of the week, at the Charlestown Police Department, located at 701 Main Street, Charlestown, Indiana.  It is recommended that interested Charlestown residents contact Department Dispatch at 812-256-6345, ext. 0, in advance to ensure personnel is available to assist with making any application for Indiana Handgun License (permit).  The Chief, Assistant Chief and select other ranking officers of the Department are solely permitted to assist with the making of any application for Indiana Handgun License (permit).  A Department local processing fee, according to the below statewide fee schedule, is assessed in advance at the time of making application.
