BY THE COMMON COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF CHARLESTOWN
ORDINANCE NO. 1991 - 12
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A SERVICE CHARGE FOR
EXCESSIVE FALSE ALARMS
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council that the Police
Department has been responding to an excessive number of false alarms for
burglar and other alarm monitoring equipment; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is desirous that those persons, firms, or corporations
using said alarms maintain their equipment so as to avoid excessive false
alarms;
THEREFORE, Be it ordained that there is hereby established a service charge for
false alarms from persons, businesses, or corporations and/or partnerships
received by and responded to by the Charlestown Police Department payable as
follows:
SECTION 1. Three false alarms shall be allowed each alarm device in any twelve
month period without charge.
SECTION 2. A service charge of $25.00 shall be paid by the Alarm Holder to the
City of Charlestown for each of the fourth and fifth false alarms received by
the Charlestown Police Department from the Alarm Holder's each and separate
device during any twelve month period.
SECTION 3. A service charge of $50.00 shall be paid for each false alarm in
excess of five false alarms received by the Charlestown Police Department from
the Alarm Holder's each and separate alarm device during any twelve month
period.
SECTION 4. All charges relative to false alarms shall be paid directly to the
City of Charlestown to the general fund.
