Arrest Made After Domestic Incident Results in a Shooting:

The Charlestown Police Department is investigating an early morning April 20th domestic dispute that resulted in Wayne Schultz, 28, being shot once in the head, at a residence in the 300 block of Ridge Road, in Charlestown.  Schultz, of Charlestown, was last reported on the day of the incident in stable condition after being transported by air ambulance to the University of Louisville Hospital Trauma Center.  Police received a 911 call at approximately 2:39 am regarding a male adult on Ridge Road who had been shot in the head.  Officers arrived on the scene within one minute to find Schultz with a single shotgun wound to the head outside of the residence he had been staying at with 40-year-old Tina McCoy.  The initial investigation of Lt. Detective Don Wolfe and Sgt. Darren Baker indicates that McCoy and Schultz may have been arguing inside McCoy’s residence on Ridge Road after returning home from a local bar.  Evidence indicates that McCoy shot Schultz with her own shotgun while both were in the bedroom of the residence.  During the incident McCoy’s eight-year-old son and a 14-year-old neighbor baby sitter were also present inside a separate room of the residence.  McCoy was taken to the Charlestown Police Department by investigating officers for questioning and was subsequently arrested and charged with Attempted Murder approximately four hours later.  McCoy is currently being held without bond in the Clark County Jail awaiting arraignment in Clark Circuit Court.  Clark County Child Protective Services has been involved and is assisting in the care of McCoy’s eight-year-old son who was present in the residence during the incident.
