FEBRUARY 10, 2004
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Charlestown
Police
now providing law enforcement services to Phase One of newly annexed residents
and businesses:
The Charlestown Police Department
officially began assuming law enforcement responsibilities within what is
considered the first phase of 2003 city annexations, on February 1st.
The second phase of annexations is scheduled for law enforcement
implementation in early fall 2004. The
first phase of annexation includes the areas west of the original city limits of
Charlestown
bordered to the north and including
High Jackson Road
to and including
Stacy Road
on its western boarder.
Phase One also includes the properties and streets of Gagnon and Carl
Ross Drive on the northern side of High Jackson Road; as well as Bethany Farms,
Stonemour, Farmington Station, and Stonebridge Subdivisions.
The southern border of Phase One includes all of SR 62 from SR 3 to and
including the intersection of
Bethany Road
, then the residences and property along the
north side of SR 62 to
Stacy Road
. The
southern section of Phase One also includes the
Charlestown
Township
area within the
River
Ridge
Commerce
Center
or to approximately
Bethany Road
to the west and the
Ohio River
to the south. The
Charlestown Police Department is actively, on a daily basis, patrolling and
investigating complaints the same as in the original city limits.
Clark County 911 is currently in the process of changing the Phase One
addresses from Clark County Police automatic forward to the Charlestown Police
Department, who is also Enhanced 911 equipped.
Until the 911 change over is complete, the Clark County Police Department
is able to forward your call to the Charlestown Police Department, as both
departments have worked well together for years.
“The Clark County Police Department has been of great assistance in
cooperating with the jurisdictional changes of
Charlestown
’s recent annexation” according to
Charlestown Assistant Chief of Police Chuck Ledbetter.
Since annexation phase one includes a large populated area, the
Charlestown Police Department is also concentrating on familiarizing citizens
with their new law enforcement services provider.
“We are currently mailing department information brochures to all Phase
One residents and businesses containing information about and contact numbers”
said Ledbetter. The department feels
it is important to be familiar with available local police services; as well as,
how to contact the closest police patrol unit whether you have an emergency or
not. New residents of the
Charlestown should remember that the police department’s non-emergency number
(256-6345) is managed by an automatic directory to help lead non-emergency
callers to the proper department division, or reach the on-duty dispatcher by
pressing “0”. All emergency
calls should be placed to 911, as always. Phase
one residents who do not receive their police department brochure before the end
of February, should contact Charlestown Police Assistant Chief Chuck Ledbetter
at 256-6345, extension 103 or via email at majorledbetter@ctownpd.com.
